I first heard of Mint more than 4 years ago, and have talked to all sorts of people that love it. Seems like I can get a Mac version of just about everything else. I also wonder how hard it really is to port over the Windows version of Quicken over to Mac since they are both on Intel processors now.

If you are serious about using Quicken as a tool to manage finances, Windows as much as I hate Microsoft is the only way to go.

Eventually, I had to run an emulator with the Windows versions to accomplish anything. After all, people do not use Quicken just for fun… they keep track of important things such as cost basis of securities for tax treatment, charitable donations, etc. I believe they understand the importance of backward compatibility to users, and if they ever did ditch the traditional Quicken for an online product it would require equivalent functionality and compatibility with existing data. I never had to work around the registration issue after all with the above advice, though I'm not sure why it fixed itself before I saw the post on how to disable it.

Wanted to post an update for anyone else looking to use Quicken for Windows on a MacBook Pro - I seriously could not be happier! It's not perfect, but for longtime Quicken users who see how lacking other programs are for managing multiple types of accounts, don't spend 4 days like I did trying to make them work.īuy Crossover, buy Quicken Deluxe!!! If an organization is not talented enough to make improvements that would draw users to upgrade every couple of years, then perhaps they need to look at moving in a different direction and leave software for those who can meet the challenge. If an organization wants users to purchase upgrades, then they need to make improvements to the product that are hard for users to resist, not disable the software even though you maintain access to your financial data.
